Voorbereidingen - verhuizen naar Singapore

Contacten, visa's, huis verhuren, inpakken en wegwezen!

Wow, we worstelen langzaam door de papier-winkel en we kijken uit naar de oversteek. Het is een ingewikkeld proces vol onzekerheden maar we vorderen elke week weer een beetje.

First things First. Ja wat voor weer heb je daar eigenlijk?

Since Singapore lies 1° north of the equator, there is no winter/summer cycle. There is also no distinct alternation of rainy/dry season. The climate is described as wet tropical, characterized by abundant rainfall and high temperatures year round, moderated by the influence of the sea. Average daily temperature and humidity are high, with a maximum of about 31°C (88°F) and a relative humidity of 70% to 80% in the afternoon. Rain is somewhat heavier during the early part of the northeast monsoon, roughly November through January. Rainfall is slightly lower than average during the months of June and July in the middle of the southeast monsoon. The inter-monsoon months of April-May and October are marked by thunderstorms and violent squalls locally known as ‘Sumatras’.

Wat betreft het kleine land met het vele water en eilanden is het net Nederland. Alleen net even wat warmer ;) Voor prietpraat zullen we dus een ander onderwerp moeten verzinnen dan het weer vandaag want dat is vooral heel zonnig.

Faux Pas

Keep in mind the following behaviors while in Singapore:

Do not smoke in public places.
Do not speak loudly or demonstrate high levels of emotion.
Do not stare at people or maintain steady eye contact.
Avoid public displays of affection with members of the opposite sex. Younger Singaporeans may be seen breaking this taboo, but it offends older people.
Do not point with your finger; use your open hand instead.
Do not touch or pass anything over someone's head, which is considered sacred.
Do not use the okay gesture (thumb and forefinger joined to make a circle).
Do not show the bottoms of your feet.
Do not hit your fist into your cupped hand; this is an obscene gesture.
Avoid using the left hand in public.
